Everything you need to know before booking. Can't find your answer? Just ask us on WhatsApp.
No experience needed for the daily or 2-day tours. All participants receive a full safety briefing and are accompanied by a certified guide throughout. The 3-day tour suits anyone in reasonable fitness — no technical skills required.
The minimum age is 12 years for all tours. Children between 12–16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the raft. There is no upper age limit — we've had guests in their 70s who had a brilliant time.
Reasonable fitness helps but there are no strict requirements. You'll be paddling in the raft and need to be able to swim (life jackets are always worn, but being comfortable in water matters). If you have any health conditions — heart, back, pregnancy — please let us know before booking.
We recommend participants can swim at least basic breaststroke. Everyone wears a certified life jacket and helmet throughout the tour. If you can't swim, we can discuss your options on a case-by-case basis via WhatsApp.
The season runs April through October. May and June have the highest water and the most exciting rapids. July and August are warmest and most popular — book early. September is quieter, water is calmer, and the canyon light is spectacular. We don't run tours outside this window.
Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet. Synthetic fabrics (not cotton) dry faster. A swimsuit or shorts under a t-shirt works well. In April/May/October, a wetsuit is a good idea — we can provide one. Secure footwear (water sandals or old trainers) is required. No flip-flops.
All tours include: certified guide, raft and paddles, helmet, life jacket, dry bag for your valuables, and lunch. Multi-day tours also include riverside/camp accommodation and all meals. Transport to/from the start point is not included but we can help arrange it.
Leave anything valuable that can't get wet in your car or accommodation. We provide a dry bag for phones, wallets, and keys. Avoid bringing jewellery that can snag on equipment.
Yes — but it needs to be waterproof or in a waterproof case. GoPros work great. Your phone goes in the dry bag we provide. We can't be responsible for any equipment that gets wet or lost on the water.
The easiest way is via WhatsApp — tap "Book a Tour" on any page, send us your dates, group size, and which tour you want. We confirm your place personally, usually within a few hours. You can also email booking@tararafting.me. There's no automated booking system.
We typically ask for a deposit to hold your date, with the balance paid on the day. We'll confirm payment details when we confirm your booking. We accept cash (EUR preferred) on the day.
Free cancellation up to 48 hours before your tour. Cancel within 48 hours and the deposit is non-refundable. If we have to cancel due to weather, unsafe water conditions, or force majeure — you get a full refund or can rebook at no extra cost.
Light rain doesn't stop us — in fact it can make the canyon feel even more dramatic. We monitor river conditions carefully. If water levels are unsafe or there's a genuine safety risk, we'll cancel and offer a full refund or reschedule. We'll contact you the evening before if there's any doubt.
Maximum group size is 12 people per tour. If you have more than 12, we may be able to run two groups on the same day — contact us to discuss.
The Tara has Class III–IV rapids — genuinely exciting, not a theme-park float, but completely manageable with proper guidance. Our guides are certified in whitewater rescue and first aid. We've run hundreds of tours without serious incident. Respect for the river is built into everything we do.
Yes — it happens occasionally, especially on bigger rapids. It's part of the experience. You'll be wearing a life jacket and helmet, the guides know how to recover swimmers quickly, and the canyon's pools are swimmable. We cover what to do if you fall out during the safety briefing.
The Tara is a glacier-fed river. Water temperatures range from about 8°C in April/May to 16–18°C in peak summer. In colder months we strongly recommend wearing a wetsuit — we can provide one on request.
We're happy to answer anything before you book. No question is too small.
